Avalokitesvara (Sanskrit: अवलोकितेश्वर means “Contemplating the world’s sound”) is a Bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Depicted in various cultures, both male and female, Avalokiteshvara is one of the most widely revered bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism, as well as informally in Theravada Buddhism.
The original Sanskrit of this bodhisattva was Avalokiteśvara. The Chinese name Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (觀世音 菩薩) is a translation from this Sanskrit name, “Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva”. This Bodhisattva is often depicted as male or female. In Chinese Buddhism known simply as Guanyin. In Cambodia, he was called Lokesvarak (អវលោកិតេស្វរៈ, អវលោកេស្វរៈ, លោកេស្វរៈ); in Japan, called Kanzeon or Kannon. Namo Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (Namo Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) is a recitation of the name of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.
The statue is sculpted extremely delicately, showing the benevolent face and compassionate gesture of Avalokitesvara. Statue 60cm high, 31cm wide, 16cm thick, 11kg weight (including wooden base)
